TS Varlack
Tim Varlack is an award-winning saxophonist whose Texas Tenor sound comes straight from the streets of and churches of Houston Texas. His genre-spanning versatility finds him equally at home ministering the Gospel in Church, as delivering soulful Blues, electrifying Funk and silky Smooth Jazz. He has shared diverse musical stages with the likes of John P. Kee, The Williams Brothers, CeCe Winans, Boney James, Curt Karr, Mindi Abair, Bobby Lyles Chaka Khan and Tweed Smith to name just a few.
While he originally hails from Brooklyn New York, Tim Varlack learned to play saxophone in local Houston Churches. He would later go on to study with the local Houston sax greats like Horace Alexander Young, Conrad Johnson and Kyle Turner. In the rich tradition of the Texas Tenor, Tim’s huge room filling tone and sultry and expressive style pay homage to his inspirations, fellow Texas Tenor Arnett Cobb, while blending both the fat soulful tone of Stanely Turrentine with expressive energy of his modern heroes Grover Washington Jr, Kirk Whalum, and Gearld Albright. With a instantly identifiable tone and the musical versatility and authenticity that comes through every note, Dr V has been connecting and exhilarating audiences and congregations across the country.
Ministry
Dr. T.S Varlack is a phenomenal Bible Teacher and Gospel Preacher. Having served as an Associate Pastor and itinerant speaker for over 30 years, his unique blend of passionate, thoughtful delivery and sweeping knowledge of the text allows him to serve as an effective vessel for God’s anointing to flow and reach people of all ages and backgrounds. While Dr. V as he is affectionately referred to agrees that his amazing ability to communicate via soul stirring sax play has indeed been a gift that has made room for him, and brought him to audiences that would otherwise never attend a church, when asked about his mission in life, he confidently affirms, “my whole purpose for being on the Earth, whether its though the horn, prayer, preaching or teaching the Word is to fulfill Nehemiah 8:8, ‘They read from the Book of the Law of God, distinctly communicating its meaning, so they could understand the reading.’”
